Becoming Whole – #16: Humble Pie

Thinking – a gift and a curse.

Thinking disconnected to life’s body,
our own and Earth’s,
a curse of immense proportions.

Over the last few centuries,
industrial and technological growth,
spurred
the rampaging hunger of needing more,
always more,
so we devour life,
flatten it, wring it out,
 penetrate it, pollute it,
devastate it, disregard it.
If it isn’t considered a profitable commodity,
IT has no worth.

We forget that life as we know it,
complexly interrelated and an evolutionary miracle,
took 14.7 billion years
to arrive
here
now.

Many contemporary humans have lost touch with reality.
We make irrational decisions
for more plunder
when it means money in the pocket,
forgetting
desecration of living systems
eventually destroys everyone
on a finite planet.

We used to think Earth
was the center of the universe,
the sun and moon spiraling around our globe
in the only galaxy
filling the whole universe.

But no!
We now know our milky way galaxy
has a billion galactic siblings
and the universe is expanding
and literally,
as far as we know,
has no boundaries.

We now know Earth
 and
her wee moon tagging along
orbit the gigantic sun.

And science keeps discovering more.
We now know Earth is one planet
among at least 4000
and by the end of the decade
astronomers may have discovered
another 6000.

Guess what?
Of the 4000 discovered
not one,
NOT ONE,
has
any
evidence
of
complex
life
like
that on
our small globe.
NOT ONE!
Does this not make you think?
